A brief discussion about The Swan hatch scene

I believe most of you remember the memorable scene in the episode 'Orientation' when Locke told Jack "it's a leap of faith". Nobody I heard (at least to my recollection) had touched on the subject that I'm about too.

Locke needs to learn his terminology. A 'leap of faith' is something you take when there is no rational evidence to support the action you are about to take, while there is evidence supporting an electromagnetic cataclysm would occur. When Jack was walking by that wall the key to the gun case stood on end, meaning there is strong magnetic activity going on, and it must be strong in order to move through concrete. When Jack watched the film he learned it was an electromagnetic station, so anybody is able to put the two together in order to realize that they should be pushing the button.

While on the other hand Locke should be advocating that they shouldn't be pushing the button, since their is demonstrable evidence supporting the need to push the button. If Locke truly was a "Man of Faith" and Jack a "Man of Science", they both should of had the opposite stand point on the problem than they had.
